Tajweed is the set of rules and principles for the proper pronunciation and recitation of the Quran, the holy book of Islam. Proper Lengthening (Madd): Tajweed defines specific rules for elongating certain letters or vowels, known as “madd.” These lengthenings have to be observed for the correct recitation of the Quran. Correct Stops (Waqf) and Pauses (Ibtida): The Quran is often recited with specific pauses and stops.Tajweedcovers the rules for when to stop and start within a verse and how to maintain the intended meaning. Rhythmic Recitation: Tajweed involves the proper intonation and rhythm when reciting Quranic verses. The Quran has a unique cadence and melody that are integral to its recitation.
